Hi All, While sorting out stuff in the garage, I've come across three books (original packs, not books concerning) of postcards. One of Western Front cemeteries (looks to be late 20's/early 30's) that includes pictures of:

-Ecoives - Mont St Eloi

-Roclincourt

-Duisans

-Maroeuil

-Bucquey

-Bailleul-Sire-Bertheult

-St Laurent Blangy

-Quatre Vents

-Blangy

-St Mary's ADS Hulluch

-La Chaudiere, Vimy

-Nine Elmes Thelus

-Villers Station

-Y Ravine

-Philosophe

-Cambrin extension

-Bethune

-Maroc (never been to this one but photo shows covered in knee high flowers - maybe poppies)

-Chocques

-Lapugnoy

-British memrial, Bethune

-La Maison Blanche (German)

A book of postcards titled 'British War Memorials' edited by Dawes-Smith of Albert includes:

-Menin Gate 2 views

-Armistice, Compiegne

-Tyneside Irish/Scots, La Boisselle

-Tank corps, Pozieres

-51st Div, Newfoundland Pk

-Ulster Tower, Thiepval

-Cologne Southern cemetery, Germany

-18th Div, Trones Wood

-caribou, Newfoundland Pk

-Cambrai Mem. to missing

-La Ferte-sous-Jouarre mem. to missing

-41st Div, Flers

-2nd Aus. Div, Peronne

-Delville Wood cem & mem.

-Canadian mem. Courcelette

-58th London Div, Chipilly

-1st Aus. Div, Pozieres

-Pozieres mem. to missing

-Big Bertha gun, Chuignes

-Armistice location, Compiegne

-47th London Div, High Wood

-Butte de Warlencourt

Last book is of the various figures on the Vimy memorial .

Let me know if there is anything of interest to anyone, I can scan the Cems as the cover is disintegrating and I can undo the staples, anything from the others will be best efforts!

Dickie - Some very nice & previously unseen cemetery photos amongst those - thanks a lot - filled some spaces in my own collection.(*)

Can we look forward to the memorials going onto photobucket as well ?

(* Gourock Trench Cemetery at Tilloy-les-Mofflaines is one I often visit when passing through Arras, - how nice to see a photo of it with not a single warehouse or factory in sight !!!)

Michael, I'll get those to you tonight - just catching up on all the Trench Detectives I taped from Military History channel today!

Tom, yes, thanks for the reply, that's what I like about these. They bridge a gap between battlefield and the present - within the next two to three weeks I'll get what I can up for everyone also.

Very many thanks for posting the cemetery postcards, fascinating, particularly to see how the surrounding landscape has changed over the years.

  • 1 month later...

found the Vimy postcards, will try and get some of uploaded. They are detail shots of the memorial statues so not as useful from a then/now point of view.

Great images Dickie - thanks for taking the time to scan and post them. They look like mid to late 1920s to me - but no doubt someone else can be more precise!
