CROONAERT Posted 20 May , 2010 Share Posted 20 May , 2010 ...From an album I was looking at yesterday (photos are of Russia, Germany (Cologne),Yserfront ,(near)Ypres and France (Cambrai area). Unfortunately no photos are captioned. Anyone any idea where this is? I would hazard a guess at St.Quentin, but am unsure. Anyone know for sure?... mebu Posted 21 May , 2010 Share Posted 21 May , 2010 The town photo doesn't seem to correspond with layout of St Quentin: tried Laon but no luck, same with Reims. The street photo even more difficult....may not be St Quentin as seems to have stream crossing under road...could they be somewhere over towards Alsace? Sorry not more helpful, Regards Peter
Robert Dunlop Posted 22 May , 2010 Share Posted 22 May , 2010 The cathedral certainly looks like St Quentin, which is such a prominent feature in the area. The street layout doesn't correspond with the modern layout, as Peter says: Robert
Guest Posted 22 May , 2010 Share Posted 22 May , 2010 Not sure where it is, but the Cathedral should be recognisable with the small-ish dome. Is it definitely France? Cheers Mike
Jack Sheldon Posted 22 May , 2010 Share Posted 22 May , 2010 It looks a bit like Soissons to me. Certainly the cathedral was badly damaged an also occupied slightly elevated location as seen on the photo. Jack
mebu Posted 22 May , 2010 Share Posted 22 May , 2010 Just had a look at Soissons on Google.....not the same road layout. Must be other cathedral towns behind the line? Regards Peter
