Please can you help,

I am looking for information and a photo of Lieutenant/Captain Norman Bruce RAMSAY of 6 Bn Northumberland Fusiliers. No Service No. On his Medal Index Card. However there was one in WW2 when he was a Major, his Service No. was 34854 and his Regiment now QOCH. He was the first Second-in-Command when No.11 Commando was being formed. He left to become Deputy Commander of Auxiliary Units.

Any help appreciated - thank you.

My wife's father was Norman Bruce Ramsay - he was born in 1895 and won the MC on April 26th 1915 at St Julian, Belgium. Are we talking about the same person, and I would be intrigued to know who you might be - regards Chris Manson

One thing is sure, his record will not be in the public domain if he served beyond 1921.Officers who resigned before 1922 would have a file under WO339 at Kew.

Bala,

you may have this information, which comes from the Historical records of the Camerons

RAMSAY Norman Bruce MC TD, 2Lt 6th Northumberland Fusiliers (TA) 27 Aug 1914. Capt 4th Cameron Highlanders (TA) 1 Aug 1939, T/Major 5 Mar 1940. W.S, Major (T/Lt Colonel 15 Aug 1943 Retd 1 sept 1948 and granted the honorary rank of Lt-Col.

Served World war 1 with the Northumberland Fusiliers.Awarded MC 1914 Star BWM and VM

Served Second World war. Joined 4th Battn Jul1939. OC 'B' Company at outbreak of war. Proceeded to france 1940. Despatches. appointed to British Advisory Staff, Polish resettlement Corps, Scottish Command 1945. 1939-45 Star, Defence and war medal. d Oct 1953.

There are not any photos in the records volume. I would be surprised if there is not a B Coy photo for the battn records before they went to france in 1940

Hope that was of some use

Adam
