ralphjd Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 Come on chaps need help here I have just received the proposals for the new panel for our memorial which is to list the missing thirty five names omitted when the the "new" panels were put in situ to replace the stolen bronze ones many years ago. Proposed wording in the centre of the panel " TO ALL THOSE WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY" names either side, dont like the wording, no mention that the men died during WW 1, any suggestions ? KevinBattle Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 OK, The Roll of Honour Listing of the Names is here: Milnrow War Memorial Names (There seems to be a lack of co ordination in getting details up to date on the website. I have pulled 50 Names with Geoffs Search Engine and a lot appear to be there). Can you provide the List of these "new" 35 Names? They already have a form of words, are they proposing to change what has been there since 1924? Milnrow_WW1_RoH_Names.doc
ralphjd Posted 18 May , 2010 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2010 I have spent the last 6 years researching our war memorial and the R of H list is wrong, for instance W H BARNED should read W H BARNES, this is only one of many errors contained in the list and on the current panels. It should bear the names of 194 men of this village and its environs, not the 147 it has at present, I should have put a figure of 47 extra not 35, sorry my mistake. I do not intend to list all these names on here, suffice to say that when the new panels are (hopefully) completed ( I have as issue with the stonemason that the additional names are NOT to be carved in the spaces left between the names on the current panels I want new panels in strict alphabetical order) all relevant parties will be informed to enable them to amend their records. Ralph. (By the way "they" means me, and the panels have not been up since 1924, replaced approx 1970)
ralphjd Posted 18 May , 2010 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2010 Just like to add that the secondary list in the attachments does not have men from Milnrow. Milnrow Road, Rochdale and Milnrow Road, Shaw are not within the Milnrow boundary and so do not count. Ralph.
CT-Guards Posted 18 May , 2010 Share Posted 18 May , 2010 Give this one to the authorities, panel should read: Nominal roll of officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men who died During the great war of 1914 – 1918.
