Chris_Baker Posted 2 November , 2002 Share Posted 2 November , 2002 Posted on behalf of Barbara Duff I have my Grandfathers WW1 Military Medal and have searched the London Gazette for his entry. After looking at thousands of entries I have been unable to find him. Apart from the PRO at Kew does anyone know of other places I might get some information. He was from Gateshead and his name was Sapper Thomas Stanley White 495254 of 58/London D S coy RE.
Guest Hill 60 Posted 3 November , 2002 Share Posted 3 November , 2002 Have you tried contacting the RE Association? I was given their e-mail address by the CWGC for an enquiry I had, it is; rea.rhqre@gtnet.gov.uk I haven't had a reply yet but the CWGC said they are busy people. Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 3 November , 2002 Share Posted 3 November , 2002 The thought of someone trawling through thousands of London Gazette entries looking for a Military Medal listing brings tears to the eyes ! - a WW1 MM search at PRO (assuming you know the name / number / unit attachment) should only take a few minutes - there is an index to the awards in the microfiche reading room. Do not rely on an MM notation appearing on the man's service medal index card or service medal rolls. Regards - Tom
