MichaelBully Posted 14 May , 2010 Share Posted 14 May , 2010 I have been trying to find out about 'Chu-Chin-Chow' which is mentioned in the 1932 novel 'We That Were Young' by Irene Rathbone, set in the Great War: One of the lead characters is a VAD nurse and frequently goes to see this show with various men friends in uniform. Is it ever performed today ? Anyone ever seen or heard a recording? I have tried looking on Youtube but no clips seem to be available. centurion Posted 14 May , 2010 Share Posted 14 May , 2010 A film version of the stage musical was produced in 1934 http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/486601/index.html. A full DVD can be purchased from Amazon. Songs from the original show were released on record and were hits of the day. There is an account of one officer's dugout where the only record that survived a German bombardment un cracked was a song from the show played over and over again driving some officers to a frenzy.
