Hello Pals and experts.

Few quick questions regarding the cap badges of the Northamptonshire Regiment.

I know a lot of the WW1 regiments that normally sported a Bi-Metal cap badge had an economy all brass version issued to the kitchener boys.

Question is did the Northamptonshire Regiment have one? Usually a large white metal badge with a small brass scroll, was it ever done in all brass?

Second question did the milita/territorials wear the same badge all in white metal as was common with other volunteer battalions? 7th and 9th Kings Liverpool for example who wore the white horse of Hanover on a white scroll instead of Brass.

Third and final question has anybody ever seen a cap badge to the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment, what form did that take?

Many thanks and best regards.

Yes the Northamptonshire Regiment had an Economy Version in Brass

Not all TF Units had seperate Badges & those that did had a Variety of Badges, some based on Parent Regiments with variations other completely seperate designs,You could do worse than borrow a Copy of Kipling & King Headress Badges which gives examples of virtually all variations

the Territorial 4th Battalion had the Regular pattern badge but with the top and bottom honour scrolls left blank.

Hope this helps you.

And a version with "4th Battalion" across the top scroll. & "South Africa 1900~02" on the centre scroll; in White Metal & Brass{B/M} & Bronze For Officers, the Blank Version was in Bi~Metal,Bronze & also as an Economy "All Brass"

Here is a Picture {courtesy K & K} of 1st Northamptonshire Rifle Volunteers Shako Badge of 1860~1890s}Most Regiments that adopted the Regular Badge after 1887 would have worn a White Metal Regular Pattern Badge with a small oval plaque {Where the Key Is?}with {1stVB} on it,but I must admit I have never seen one{& a local collector had an amazing Northamptonshire Badge Collection}See Below for a Picture of a WW1 Period Volunteer Lapel Badge of The Northampton Citizen Corps
