Using 'near numbering', surviving service papers show: 4/Lincs 4960 Baker - attested 27.11.1915 4964 Applewhite - attested 29.11.1915 4965 4967 Emmingham - attested 29.11.1915 4969 Haw - attested 29.11.1915 Royal Warwickshire Regiment 27124 Clarke - previously (3727) 3/4 Lincs posted to 1/4 Lincs, transferred to 5 (Reserve) Bn RWR and posted to 2/RWR on the same day - 9.9.1916 27125 Foster - previously 5028 3/5 Lincs, transferred to RWR 9.9.1916, having gone overseas to France on 19.7.1916 What I'm thinking is that Harold attested to the Lincolnshire Regiment circa late November 1915 and initially served at home with the 3/4 Battalion. He was then sent overseas to serve with the 1/4 Bn, but remained at an Infantry Base Depot prior to being transferred to 2/RWR (and renumbered) for service at the front on 9.9.1916. War diaries are available as free downloads from the National Archives, which might note a draft of reinforcements being received circa 9.9.1916. Unfortunately the site seems to be down at the moment, so I can't check for you. {Edit] The 2/RWR diary shows: Image sourced from the National Archives Harold appears on this Casualty List as a returned Pow (link). NB he might have returned home several weeks earlier, but it might be possible to get an estimated return date by looking for service files for men that are recorded on the same list. Having returned to the UK, he appears to have been discharged on 9.1.1920, and received a pension due to his medical conditions 'attributable' to his war service.
