I think the medal ribbons worn by the sailor in the centre of the photo are first world war ones, can anyone confirm it. Thanks. Alby.

Any chance of a close up just of the ribbons?

I'll get my son to help me get a close up tomorrow Andrew, thanks. Alby.

Thanks - at present it's looking to my eye like three ribbands, the second and third being the British War and Victory Medals. This would likely make the first either the 1914 or 1914/15 Star ribband, but it's not easy to tell.

If he has the star which it looks like he did it would be a 15 star unless he was in the RND at the start of the war and landed in france as a marine the navy did not get a 14 star.

Sorry for not getting back to you all, hectic weekend. I've found out that my grandad served on HMS Caradoc from June 1917 untill January 1921. He's not in the photo but I think they might be his mates. I'll have a go at enlarging it tomorrow. I'm hopeless at these computers. Alby.
