Hello,

I recently read an article in a local paper from 1917, there was a small paragraph stating a Major Wail had ben killed in France, I worked out the date to be 4th June 1917. He was on his third trip there, and was killed by a shell.

I looked on the CWGC but to no avail.

I wondered if his name could have been Waile, or Wale, but no joy either.

Would anyone have a suggestion of how to try and find information on him.

Regards,

Klifton Snow

Hi Klifton

the only officer I can find, admittedly with my limited resources is:

Major Richard Wall Killed 8/6/17 Aged 38 Royal Field Artillery.

Son of Surgeon-General T F Wall of Omagh Co Tyrone.

Husband of Irene Wall of 1 Fearon Rd, Blacklands, Mastings (This maybe Hastings).

Could this be your man?

regards

Hello,

Thanks for the replies.

I cross referenced the names in the Procat archives, I cound't find a Major Wall, though and there seemed to be to many in the London Gazette, but I did find a M.D.Wahl, who was promoted acting Major on 21/6/1917 which means this was on the same day he died supposedly, he was in the Special Reserve of Officers, who where stationed in Athlone at this time, I know definately with the Royal Field Artillery, so I assume with the Royal Garrison Artillery to. MD Wahl 1/10/16 promoted 2nd Lieut, then acting Captain in some part of early 1917 and finally acting Major. I am asuming this is him as the Special Reserve seem's to fit.

Thanks for the help,

Kliff Snow
