Christina Holstein Posted 5 March , 2003 Share Posted 5 March , 2003 This must be the most chit chatty question ever. Is it right that Nanette and Rintintin were small string dolls carried as good luck charms during WW1? If so, does anyone know anything about the origin of the belief in the power of these little dolls as talisman, or good luck charms. Is it also correct that there is evidence that the idea of carrying a pair of these dolls originated in Paris during the long range shelling of the city? The things that come up on a forum like this. Rintintin is just a dog to me, at least, he was until yesterday. Christina Holstein
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 5 March , 2003 Share Posted 5 March , 2003 You will find www.poupendal.com/mutgb of interest. It shows an example of the two dolls.
Christina Holstein Posted 5 March , 2003 Author Share Posted 5 March , 2003 Thanks very much but my browser tells me it can't find that URL. Are you sure it's the right address? Christina
CROONAERT Posted 5 March , 2003 Share Posted 5 March , 2003 Christina. You'll see another WW1 link with Rintintin (the dog) if you see my postings in the "pet's names" thread on this section of the forum. Dave.
Christina Holstein Posted 5 March , 2003 Author Share Posted 5 March , 2003 Thanks for all the help. I've tracked the poupendol website and now that I know that our heroine's name is Nenette and not Nanette I've found them all over Google.
