sjustice Posted 17 April , 2010 Share Posted 17 April , 2010 A Visit to Sir Douglas Haig Mike What do we know about Marcossen? Was he an American journalist? Not much of an interview. Not a one-on-one, maybe more of a visit to GHQ with DH there? An intriguing and somewhat sad piece. Cheers, Simon

It appears to be written during the war and has an air of propaganda, I would have guessed an introduction for the American public to the commander of their new ally. Yet there are several references which imply a good bit of research. Not quite dashed off after dinner with Haig as part of a tour. The insistence on Haig as Scots and particularly a Fifer seems odd. I shouldn't have thought that was at all meaningful to Americans. It is amusing to me, as the Fifers are known in Scotland as ' fly Fifers' . If ye wid sup wi' a Fifer, ye maun hae a lang spune, is a very old proverb. I wonder who gave him his background information?
