per ardua per mare per terram Posted 13 April , 2010 Share Posted 13 April , 2010 The RN medal roll is in ADM 171/115 on microfilm at Kew. His RNAS service register is online: Name Sparkes, Sydney William Official Number: F1727 Place of Birth: Rugby, Warwickshire Date of birth: 19 May 1895 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1 If his RAF record has been released it should be in AIR 79/1826, an original document at the UK National Archives, Kew. William Spencer's book on researching medals gives references to several files at kew that may be of help. There are also several files relating to Iraq at Kew that may be worth looking at if you find his unit.
