RE: Canadian War Diaries

The list above shows the transcribed diaries (searchable by keyword) for Canadian war diaries and British war diaries within the Canadian collection.

There are many more Canadian war diaries available to view online that have not yet been transcribed and are hand or typewritten. There are also diaries available there for Canadian war hospitals in England.

Bernard:

The government archives have placed the original Canadian (& some British) diaries online, however, transcribing them is not part of their mandate. This has been taken on by volunteers and appears on private websites.

There is a list naming exactly all the diaries available on the Canadian Great War Project. It likely specifies which are transcribed and which are not transcribed.

My computer is not picking up the page at the moment, but go to the Canadian Great War Project, then left side bar tab "War Diaries", then "Grandson Michael's Guide to the LAC diaries". This should give a full list plus all the interesting diaries you may not realize are available (hospitals, Siberia, etc.)

Here is the direct link to the page on the Canadian Great War Project that gives you an organized listing of the entire selection of war diaries available at Library & Archives Canada (LAC). You need to reference this page created by a volunteer (known as "Grandson Michael") so that you can see exactly what is available. The LAC site is searchable, but doesn't give a list, so you need to know exactly what you are looking for.

This list reveals some interesting diaries. Under "Medical Units" the link will take you to a listing of these including some Casualty Clearing Stations.

Sorry Andy - should have said. Anything else you see attributed to me is what I have downloaded or photographed at Kew and you know you are very welcome to any of it any time. The ones that are just marked April I got at Kew - I assume you have those but they weren't part of what I got from you in Arras. Do you need them?

Are you in France this summer - if so in last week of July or first 3 of August please call by and I can pay my penance in beers/food or whatever other commodity applies.

Teasing you Jim  , as is my way. Arras in July or August sounds like a damn good idea to me, away from the crowded summer haunts.

It can be arranged - first 2 weeks the best before partner and partner's mom arrive!! (Hopefully having kitchen fitted so there might be no food!! - excuse to go out). Your PM is full - are you still on the same email?

By the way - what are you doing on Facebook - I can't make head nor tail of it?

Now to add 21st Division stuff to here - got it on my own. honest :innocent:
