andy1400 Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 Would anyone have any information on 2nd Lt J W Dace, Royal Engineers. Formerly L/Sgt, Essex Regt. The Times has him commissioned as of 10th of July 1918. I am interested in where he comes from mainly, but anything would be of help. Thank you. eyman Posted 7 April , 2010 Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Andy His birth was registered in the 1st quarter 1896, Edmonton district. He may well have been the son of a man of the same name whose birth was registered in London in 1854 (and married in 1880). Another of the same name - his grandfather? - was born c 1827 and died 1872. There are papers for a Lieut J W Dace in WO 374/17536 at Kew covering 1914 to 1917 and 1926. This doesn't quite tie in with his being commissioned in 1918 but it's probably him. At least this shows he was commissioned in the Territorial Force. Dace was entitled to British War and Victory medals. The medal index card gives two addresses for him: 82 Belvedere Rd, Lambeth and 74 Nutfield Rd, Thornton Heath. I hope this helps Ian
