Looking at the Depot Listing of men I have identified so far.

3rd Battalion Recruits

39 Roman Catholic

Line Recruits

30 Roman Catholic

3 Church of England

2 Jewish

Establishment

77 Roman Catholic

11 Church of England

1 Methodist

Hi,

Looking at the 1st Battalion in India on the 1911 Census there is no Religion shown, but here is the percentage from place of birth.

Ireland 812 (82.1%)

England 150 (15.2%)

Scotland 10 (1.0%)

India 13 (1.3%)

America 3 (0.3%)

Channel Islands 1 (0.1%)

I was thinking about this question earlier today - I know that Anglicans serving in English regiments had identity discs bearing the initials "C of E", but did this also apply to Anglicans in Irish, Welsh and Scottish units. I would have thought that Irish Anglicans carried "C of I" discs, but some of the information quoted in this thread suggests that they may have been issued with "C of E" discs?
