Remembered Today:

Wilton Edwin Rix

Recommended Posts

He is my Grandfather and I am trying to find out how he managed to get to Gallipoli and be reputed to be attached to the ANZACS.

He doesnt seem to appear in any of the records I have come across.

As I am living in N.Z. it makes it all the more difficult.

Any help most appreciated

James

Welcome to the Forum.

There is an MIC for this man, which looks promising:-

Name: Wilton E Rix

Regiment or Corps: Young Mens Christian Association

He went to Egypt in June 1915 and was entitled to the British War Medal.

Here's a link to the National Archives where it's availabe for £2.00 in the UK - will it work for you?

James,

I don't know whether you are still pursuing Wilton Edwin Rix, but I do have some more information. If you reply to this post, I will upload some pdf files on him.

James hasn't been active on this forum since April 2010.

I have sent him a PM on your behalf but, after almost 4 years absent, he may not respond....

Why not add the information anyway, unless sensitive..

OK, just to say the following:

1. Wilton Edwin Rix's obituary appears in The Times, Thursday Oct 16th 1958. It confirms that he was trained at Mansfield College, Oxford, and served in Gallipoli during the first word war.

2. A notice in The Times for Oct 16th 1913 states that "The Rev Wilton Rix of Benson, Oxon has accepted the pastorate at Oxted.

3. I am aware of Wilton Rix because he was the pastor at Ealing Green (west London) during the 20s and 30s. He ran 'Little Church', a church for children, and my father, Norman Maggs, once read the lesson there that was broadcast by the BBC to the entire country.
