Remembered Today:

Machine Gun Corps service record

I'm trying to help a friend interpret his father's service record but none of my relatives was in the MGC so I'm at a bit of a loss. The only abbreviation I recognise for certain is "BD" = Base Depot - so I'd welcome expert advice, especially with the following:-

49/17 - in the "Corps" column

RD Coy - in the "Bn or Depot" column

CD - ditto

5R Bn - ditto

He's trying to find out where his dad was wounded on 16th August 1917 so any help with that too would be much appreciated.

It looks like he was posted to Home Service in a Reserve Battalion after leaving hospital. The dittos in the subsequent rows refer up to the major heading giving (I think) ...

RD Coy - reads ' - " - R D Coy' meaning Home Reserve "D" Company

5R Bn - reads ' - " - 5 R.Bn 25 R.Coy' meaning Home 5th Reserve Battalion, 25 Reserve Company

Unsure on the CD and the 49/17.

Are you the Mark who was looking for Private Lee Lewis 71080 who was possibly awarded a DCM?
