Another reminder (if one were needed) of the mindless, louts living amongst us who have no respect for anything but themselves. If only they had a fraction of the moral courage of the people who this memorial commemorates. I'm rather sorry they didn't fall and grievously injure themselves. Hoping for them to be caught is probably futile.

The Barr Beacon Memorial was also damaged in the 1970s when thieves stole an absolutely huge amount of bronze railings, balustrades, banisters and so on. These were never replaced, leaving the memorial a shadow of its former self. This latest theft is a great shame. The green copper roof was visible for miles.

I was listening to a radio program about this the other day, what I don't understand is the scrap merchants who buy the stuff must know where it has come from, they must have enough ligit suppliers to report the dodgy ones and still make a living.
