PabloC Posted 5 March , 2010 Share Posted 5 March , 2010 Hi, I would be grateful for anyone's opinions as to what the section of faded text says between the entry '2/Bn Posted' and '9th ? B ? Posted'. I've adjusted the colour of the original to improve the legibility of text as best as I can. Might anyone know of any other ways to improve this? As far as I can read, he was posted somewhere after the 2nd Bn, then on to the 8th Bn perhaps, then to the 3rd...then the 9th, although I cannot read what the text entries next to these battalion numbers says. Any assistance would be appreciated thanks. Regards Paul
Bardess Posted 5 March , 2010 Share Posted 5 March , 2010 Hi Paul Have you tried using MS Paint? Grab a screenshot and paste it into Paint and then go to Image and select invert colours. Brings it up as a negative.
sotonmate Posted 5 March , 2010 Share Posted 5 March , 2010 Paul I think it says IBD,is that something to do with Infantry Base Depot ? Sotonmate
stevem49 Posted 5 March , 2010 Share Posted 5 March , 2010 Is it 3rd Bn Lincolns - (Reserve Bn Grimsby) 3rd Bn. It could be appraised ?/ Granted stay of? so still 3rd Bn. Could be 2nd Bn Posted. The 9th does look like IBD.Could not be 9th Bn as they were a reserve. Infantry Brigade Depot? Possibly for a course. Finally 6th Bn Lincolns. What date did he die? The 6th Bn were in 33rd brigade , 11th Div. In July 1917 a number of 33rd brigade men got caught in the new German gas shells. Steve m
PabloC Posted 6 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2010 Thanks All, Steve, it's another section of the service record for Henry Wattam, for which I have the information you emailed over (he died on the 17th July 1917 resulting from a gas attack the previous day...).
