I've got the information on the CWGC website but does anyone know anything else? He was in the 1st Battalion Border Regiment and I cannot understand why he'd be on the Thiepval Memorial if he died in August 1917? I can only find the 1st Battalion at a diiferent point on the Western Front.

Any help would be appreciated!

He is remembered on Tyne Cot Memorial, east of Ypres and almost certainly involved in Third Ypres . On the day of his death it was the start of the battle of Langemarck, which 1 Border fought in as part of 87 Brigade of 29 Division. SDGW shows him as killed in action on the 16.8.1917,and born.lived and enlisted Carlisle.
