Can anyone advise me as to the date of death of Private Harry Reeve 7100 2nd Bat Suffolk Regiment. CWGC has him here

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=723761

as 26-08-1914

but when I checked SDGW it has him 14-07-1915.

My SDGW is through familyrelatives.com and has been known to have transcription errors but I don't know which is correct.

Steve. SDGW has him as 14-7-1915 usually the errors on Ancestry etc are transcription mistakes in the born/enlisting/residing boxes, this man born Belchamp St Paul enlisted Sudbury. Ralph.

Just like to add that as his name is on the Le F-J memorial I would opt for the 1914 date.

Looks like you have a pickle

GRO Army OR lists him as 1915 - volume 1.63 / page 282

Any bets on the right year ?

Commemoration on the La Ferte memorial supports 1914. But then if that's what CWGC had as a date, that's where they'd put him. You need the death certificate and , probably, the war diary for the 1915 date.

John

Thank you for your help

Does anyone have a copy of the war diary ? I understand the 2nd Suffolks were at Le Cateau on the 25th August and sustained losses of several hundred so it is probable that he was killed there. I will get a DC for him.
