Swan & Hunter, Newcastle in August 1888 as yard No.132 and launched as the FELBRIDGE (Official No.95455) for Felbridge SS. Co., Ltd. (W. R. Price & Co.), London and measured 280ft long by 37ft.5in in beam In 1897 she was registered to J. Hoggarth & Co., London 1901 renamed CAIRNSTRATH by Gaelic Steamships, Ltd. (Cairns, Young & Noble), Newcastle. 1904 – same owner but managed by Cairns, Noble & Co. 1911 owned by Cairn Line of Steamships, Ltd. (s/m) 1917 registered to Capel & Co. (Newcastle & Hull), Ltd.
