Jon Miller Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 Please could someone explain this. During the attack on Dijailah Redoubt, the 6th Devons as part of the 36th Brigade were redirected to help the 28th Brigade. I'd like to know which Divisions these brigades belonged to, particularly as having found the 28th Brigade amongst the 9th Division in the relevant section on the Long Long Trail, and the 9th Div were not in Mesopotamia. The 28th Brigade was disbanded in May 1916, but that is two months after the time I am concerned with (8 Mar 1916).
Jon Miller Posted 15 May , 2004 Author Share Posted 15 May , 2004 I'd also like to know which battalions made up this mystery 28th Brigade in Mesopotamia.
Chris_Baker Posted 15 May , 2004 Share Posted 15 May , 2004 This was NOT the 28th Infantry Brigade of the British Army, but the 28th (Gharwal) Brigade of 7th (Meerut) Division of the Indian Army. The other infantry units were 2nd Leicesters, 51st and 53rd Sikhs and 56th Punjabi Rifles.
