stephen p nunn Posted 14 February , 2010 Share Posted 14 February , 2010 Having read and very much enjoyed 'Digging the Trenches' by Andrew Robertshaw and David Kenyon (Pen & sword 2008) I was recommended to get hold of 'Digging Up Plugstreet' by Martin Brown and Richard Osgood (Haynes 2009). I duly purchased a copy and.....wow, what a read! Really well structured and sensitively illustrated throughout. It tracks the story of the Australian 3rd Infantry Division from Australia to England to the Front - from training to battle. The story is evidenced through documentary sources but also some quite amazing archaeology. The care and attention given to the excavation work and the preservation of the soldiers stories and memories is extremely impressive. It's one of those books that you don't really want to end but it makes you want to go out to the sites and be part of the work. Well done Martin and Richard. Thank you for such a great book. (Am reading 'Tommy's War' by Peter Doyle next - a Valentine's Day present from the lovely Mrs. Maldon). Cheers. SPN Maldon
