Liverpool Town Hall's Roll of Honour has many oddities among its 13000+ entries, some of which have been solved with help from this forum's members.

Here is another:

This soldier's unit is given as in the topic title

CURRIN PTE. E

I have not been able to find this and wonder if he served in an 'Empire' unit, as many Australians and Canadians of Liverpool origin are named on the Roll. His name may not even be correct, but I have used Geoff's excellent search engine to comb the CWGC's register with no result so far and the LLT search is silent.

All ideas welcomed.

I suspect it's a Canadian outfit....

158th (Duke of Connaught's Own) Battalion or 199th (Duchess of Connaught's Own Irish Rangers) Battalion.

He wouldn't have been listed as a casualty with either of these battalions as I believe they were used in England to supply drafts to Infantry units in France. Based on that I suspect it's this man....

Name: CURRIN

Initials: E

Nationality: Canadian

Rank: Private

Regiment/Service: Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment)

Unit Text: 14th Bn.

Date of Death: 07/08/1917

Service No: 920068

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead

Grave/Memorial Reference: II. D. 10.

Cemetery: MAZINGARBE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION

Regards

Steve

From the Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group's "Matrix Project", in particular the Richardson Collection of Nominal Rolls they show he came over from Canada with the 199th Battalion......
