Plate off French gun?

happy New Year to all!,

Many years ago,I used to dig up old rubbish dumps for bottles etc,anything you could find really.

I dug this plate up along with some stuff i could date to circa 1914.

I put in the text into google and it came up with the name of one of the makers of the famous 75mm gun.

Would anyone like to speculate what the plate came off?I would be fascinated to know.

The real question is why it ended up in a rubbish tip,in the sand dunes,in Somerset.
