Hello,

I need some help on the above soldier. Can we get the battalion from his service number?

I belive he started out as a private when he went to war.

Sorry I have no other information.

Regards

Rowland.

The 4 prefix indicates this man was a pre war Militia man and was part of two special Reserve Battalions(3rd and 4th).

These Battalions were at York, and were used as Reserves for the 1st and 2nd Battalions during the opening months of the war.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards Kevin.

Many thanks Kevin, thats a great help. I have also found out that he is entitled to a 1915star trio. So I guess he must have been drafted from York in early 1915.

Regards Rowland.
