theodore Posted 17 December , 2009 Posted 17 December , 2009 Does any member know if Casualty Clearing Stations held records and if they have been archived and are available to search now? Of particular interest where would the men that were wounded at the battle of Gheluvelt, 31st October 1914 have been treated (nearest CCS). Regards Peter
sotonmate Posted 17 December , 2009 Posted 17 December , 2009 Peter There are a few Admissions and Discharge Registers for some CCSs at Kew Archives under MH106. I read somewhere that they are "representative samples" but doubtless someone here will know more. If you enter in the Catalogue search page Casualty Clearing Station on the top line and MH106 on the bottom line you will get the ones in storage, but you have to visit to read them. Sotonmate
sotonmate Posted 18 December , 2009 Posted 18 December , 2009 Peter The only possible candidate from the MH106 records is 3 CCS which was at Hazebrouck (35 or so kms W of Gheluveldt (as the crow flies but by rail or road a fair bit further!) from Aug 1914 to Apr 1915,but it's records only start at Nov 1914. It might be possible that some Oct casualties are shown in the Admission records. The other records cover from Dec 1915, in various periods, for CCSs 11/31/34/39 and 82. Sotonmate
