19th Battalion Kings Liverpool Regiment

I am researching one of my chaps who served in the above battalion/regiment and was killed on 17th Oct 1916. Would anyone by any chance have a copy of the War Diary for the month of October 1916 please. He served in the machine gun (Lewis I am assuming) section and was apparently part of a ration party bringing up supplies into the front line when he was killed instantly by a shell. Would love sight of the war diary to see if there was any mention of such an incident around this time.

As a further aside is anyone researching hockey players as my guy not only played "local" hockey here in Banbridge but also as an International for Ireland against England, Scotland and Wales. He also apparently played for the Midlands in international trials matches whilst living and working in Liverpool. All of which I have been as yet (so far) unable to verify.

Thanks in anticipation, regards, Tommy.

Your PM title has really aroused my interest PM sent with e-mail address, looking forward to reading the war diary, much appreciated. If he's mentioned the family will be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, Tommy.

Tommy,

I presume that you are aware of the book by Graham Maddocks on the Liverpool Pals (Pen and Sword and hopefully available though your library). It is unlikely to mention your man by name (apart from the list of those killed at the back) but will give you the context of the time.

A big thank you for all the information you sent, it is very much appreciated. I am now on the trail of a picture at the moment from the family and will pass on a copy if and when I receive it. I was also able to pick up some info on his time as a senior hockey player in the Irish Senior Cup and Kirk Cup as well as confirming he also played for Ulster at inter-provincial level.

Yes, I was aware of the book, but just shelled out £50 on another tomb, so wife has said no more until the New Year, which reminds me I still have a quick review to write as well.

Thanks and regards, Tommy.
