Trasfers through Alexandria to Bombay

Hi there

My grandfather was in the RASC, attached to the 3rd m.m.g.s. which left France in 1917 to travel to India.

Here is an excert from a war diary describes their progress

They embarked from Marseilles on SS Manitou on 27 November and arrived Alexandria on 8 December. Then to Port Suez on 13 December and sailed for Bombay (on SS Ishangic???) on Xmas Day 1917

I am looking for information on how they travelled to Port Suez - on the SS Ishangic ?( I have been looking for the name of this ship without success)

Any information about the conditions and life in Alexandria and Port Suez for troops in transition?
