phil@basildon Posted 2 December , 2009 Posted 2 December , 2009 Another thread, 'Evaders after Mons 1914' has inspired me to ask if anyone has details of how many British soldiers who found themselves behind German lines were taken prisoner, made their way back to British lines, evaded capture or were caught by the Germans. I am aware that quite a few who adopted civilian dress were executed as spies together with many civilians who helped them.
Simon Birch Posted 2 December , 2009 Posted 2 December , 2009 Good Morning, There is a book called "A Foreign Field" by Ben MacIntyre details some explotis of troops caught behind the lines. And the Long Silence by Helen McPhail has about 10 pages on British troops escaping. Simon
