19th & 20th Rifle Brigade

Hi,

I am interested in a number of men joining 1/4 cheshire from the Rifle Brigade. I have one mans number 208697 whos MIC states 19th Battalion and another 210754 whos MIC states 20th Battalion. The rest of the group are similarly numbered but battalion is unstated.

The LLTrail groups 18th to 25th Rifle brigade as between 200000 and 300000 without differentiation.

The timing would approximately put the transfer in the middle east and probably all these men are from 19th or 20th.

My question is. Are there clear 1917 territorial number differentiations between the various rifle Brigades, or between 19th and 20th in Particular.

I show the other numbers concerned for your consideration.

Many thanks for your insights

David

Unfortunately they are lumped together as defined on the LLT. Original members of these RB Bn's only had four figure numbers, before the introduction of the new six figure numbers, but reinforcements would be tagged on and given numbers relating to their designated RB battalion.

The AVL's of certain regions are pretty good for picking up batches of men in these RB(TF)Bn's.

Sorry David - AVL is the Absent Voter's List. These contain the details of all servicemen eligible to vote in 1918/19 and are usually seperate from your standard voters lists.
