Knowles (5751), A Company, 6th Battalion The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (Attached to the 43 TH Battery) BEF. His medal card seems to indicate a DCM ? "LG 1/1/1918"? Thanks all SPN Maldon

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Owing to shortage of officers, he took charge of and organised three trench mortar teams, showing great courage and coolness under heavy shell fire, and carrying out his duties most efficiently under very trying conditions. What a brave man! Research arises out of a silk I have purchased for my wife for Christmas saying "Happy Christmas" and from Cpl. Knowls to his sweetheart.
