Captain Maurice Arbuthnot 16th Lancers MC

I am trying to track down any information on Captain Maurice Arbuthnot 16th Lancers MC and what he did to win the MC. The MC was awarded on 4/6/1917 he was also awarded the Croix de Guerre on 26/11/1918.

This is strange as he died at home on 14th October 1918?. The 16th Lancers Museum have very little information on this officer and no record of the action in which he won his Miliatry Cross?

any help or direction would be welcome.

regards

Steve,

My records state 'died of septic pneumonia'. Aged 29 and buried in Ockley Cemetery in Surrey. Married to Madeline. MC gazetted June 1st 1917 (can't find citation). April 1918 Croix de Guerre. 16th Lancers and on the Staff. Born 1889 and went to Summer Fields, Oxford 1897 - 1900. Then Eton and King's College, Cambridge, where he gained a B.A. in 1911.

Hope some of this may be of some use to you even if it does not directly answer all your questions!

Steve,

He was an Old Boy of the school I teach at - Summer Fields, Oxford. If I did not find his MC citation it was probably not published in the London Gazette. Regiment might have it? Two other bits - he was twice MID. His brother was also 16th Lancers, but transferred to R.A.F. and was killed in an accident two months after Maurice's death. Poor family.

What is your interest?

Hi Steve

You have his CdG LG as 26/11/1918 but I can only find him here 18/04/1818

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/306...upplements/4716

His MC is a Kings Birthday Honour so no citation.

I don't know if it's relevant to this thread, but I also am given to understand that awards made in New Year or Birthday honours lists don't have retrievable citations, even if they were for bravery or other commendable deed. This info is based on family research into my father-in-law who was awarded the BEM for bomb disposal.

Steve,

Any chance of a photo of his grave?

thanks if possible.
