I picked up a nice piece of wood from HMS Victory in the Gift Shoppe there back in 2000...nice addition to my Maritime collection, if I may say so myself.

Had that brave, mortally wounded Royal Marine not ordered Lion's Q magazine flooded, Beatty's epitaph might well have been the famous:

"There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today..."

If Major F J W Harvey RMLI had not saved the ship as he was credited with doing, then probably no one would have heard about that quip as Beatty and the witnesses would have been dead.

As an excellent example of the Beatty signal, it seems a very fitting epitaph to me - insufficient information as to what he wanted and wide open to misinterpretation... :D
