Guest dlegg Posted 4 May , 2004 Share Posted 4 May , 2004 My Great Grandfather served in P Batt' RHA during WW1 he was awarded the 1914 star so I know he was in Europe Sept/Nov 1914 but no idea where. If possible I would like to find out where the Battery served throughout the War. If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.
rflory Posted 5 May , 2004 Share Posted 5 May , 2004 "P" Battery, RHA served at Woolwich as part of X (Reserve) Brigade, RHA during the Great War - it did not serve overseas. I suspect that your GGGF either trained in P Battery or was assigned to it during home service during the war. He obviously went overseas with another battery. Regards. Guest dlegg Posted 5 May , 2004 Share Posted 5 May , 2004 Thanks Dick, I only had a photocopy of my GGf's discharge papers to go on so presumably people were transfed to P Battery prior to discharge. Regards Derek Legg
Guest dlegg Posted 5 May , 2004 Share Posted 5 May , 2004 Sorry Dick I have just had another look at my GGf's papers it seems that from 1917 onwards he was based in England as a physical training and bayonet instructor so what I wrote in my first reply was wrong.
