Charles served under an alias with a different first name. He has two MIC's, one for each name.

Here are his details from CWGC:

Name: SMITH, CHARLES WILLIAM

Initials: C W

Nationality: United Kingdom

Rank: Rifleman

Regiment/Service: Rifle Brigade

Unit Text: 1st Bn.

Age: 32

Date of Death: 07/05/1915

Service No: 5/8706

Additional information: Son of Frederick and Eliza Smith, of 34, Northampton Rd., Finsbury, London; husband of Ann Rebecca Alexander (formerly Smith), of 15, Clift St., New North Rd., Islington, London.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead

Grave/Memorial Reference: XI.A. 5. 33.

Cemetery: LEYTONSTONE (ST. PATRICK'S) ROMAN CATHOLIC CEMETERY

The first one is the alias. He qualified for the 1914 Star, BWM and Victory.

Cheers Andy.
