Pighills Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 I've been trying to Tom, but for some reason Photobucket or Flickr wont allow me to upload the image - I've moved to Windows 7 and have saved the jpeg image as normal and it's showing on my system, but just won't work - is there anyone else out there who can possibly post it? ralphjd Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 He is listed on Ancestrys Ireland casualties of WW1 as OHALLORAN Thomas, and his MIC spelt with two L,s. Ralph.

apwright Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 He has 2 MICs, one as O'Halloran and one as Nevels, but both marked "Ident." with each other. It's clear from the Nevels card that he didn;t die, but was discharged to Army Reserve Z on 21/4/19. He must have been thought to have died at one stage, because his name is still inscribed on the Doiran Memorial, but AFAIK it is set for deletion whenever the memorial is renovated. He has already been removed from the database. I don't know the story behind his disappearance or his name-change, unfortunately! Adrian

apwright Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 Here's his name on the Doiran Memorial: Adrian EDIT: There are about 60 names on the Doiran Memorial that are due to be deleted, but mostly because the men were found to be buried elsewhere. museumtom Posted 9 November , 2009 Author Share Posted 9 November , 2009 There seems to be one great story in there somewhere if we could only find it. Many thanks for everything everyone. I could not have done it alone. Kindest regards and thanks again. Tom.
Pighills Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 Someone looked for his records in 1943 - wonder what that was all about?? As you say, probably one interesting story, wonder if it'll ever come to light. Glad everyone was able to upload the MIC, I've sorted out my difficulties with it, an Ancestry incompatability problem with Windows 7!!

mattgibbs Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 The 1943 entry could be something as simple as re-claimed medals due to theft or loss during WW2?

Guest Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 If you input 28488 into the Pensions records search, you get 10 or more pages of this man's record. Could the answer be in here/ Cheers Mike

Northern Soul Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 Tom, If his name is on the Doiran Memorial and you can't find find it in the database then that suggests his name has been removed from the database - possibly as a consequence of not actually having died. In this case you need to contact the CWGC direct and ask them why there is a discrepancy. If they have deliberately removed his name then hopefully they should have a record as to why. Best wishes. Andy.
