PhilH Posted 8 November , 2009 Posted 8 November , 2009 This may not be the right place for this (wasn't really sure so please forgive it's in the wrong forum). I've just been having a look around Fromelles on Google Earth and spotted crop marks of what looks like a trench about a mile to the East of the village. Of course it may just be my imagination but I'd be interested to know if it is - photo attached.
sarge2871 Posted 10 November , 2009 Posted 10 November , 2009 could be...the best person to answer would be Martial Delebarre, but he is a bit busy just now. Regards, Col
PhilH Posted 10 November , 2009 Author Posted 10 November , 2009 Thanks, Sarge - guess I'll need to be patient but then it's not exactly important but I was kind of intrigued having spotted it. MODS: I'm thinking that I really posted this in the wrong place but still have no idea where would be appropriate - please feel free to move the thread...
CROONAERT Posted 11 November , 2009 Posted 11 November , 2009 It's the ghostly remains of a section of "Neglect Trench". If you look closely, you can also see the remains of the straight trench just to the south that also housed a camouflage screen. Dave.
PhilH Posted 11 November , 2009 Author Posted 11 November , 2009 Many thanks, Croonaert - that's much appreciated. You're saying that the dark line just below the trench is another trench? I'd assumed that was just markings from a tractor or whatever. I'm doing no serious research here but do find it fascinating so I'd kind of like to get it all in perspective - I've seen mention of trench maps etc and it would be interesting to get hold of one covering that area (and anything else that might show it. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to where to find such things?

PhilH Posted 13 November , 2009 Author Posted 13 November , 2009 Again, many thanks for that. The photo does help put it in perspective and I'll get one of your CD's ordered so I can see it in better detail.
CROONAERT Posted 13 November , 2009 Posted 13 November , 2009 Phil... that one's not on any of my CDs just yet. The next one that's due for completion will be covering the Armentieres to Arras area (with (French, British & German) trenchmaps from January 1915 through to September 1918) and so that area will be covered on that CD (due out in a couple of weeks or so). The other companies CDs and DVDs listed on that page have it covered already though (well, - as far as I know, 2 of them do anyway) Dave
PhilH Posted 13 November , 2009 Author Posted 13 November , 2009 ******..... I've just ordered it..... Don't worry too much but if it's practical for you to hold and change the order to the new one that would be great - won't get excited by it you can't though.
CROONAERT Posted 13 November , 2009 Posted 13 November , 2009 Not to worry, Phil. I've just sent you a PM as regards this. Dave
