dawnmayo Posted 7 November , 2009 Share Posted 7 November , 2009 Hi all is anyone able to help trace the service details of my Great Grandfather - David Charles Adams during the first world war. I have his regimental number from the Medal Roll which is 169059 and know that he served as a gunner with the RGA. I have tried searching the National Archives for his service record but have had no luck thus far. I have some post cards that he sent to my Grandmother in 1918 from Italy with Spresiano & Glazignono on them. Does any one know a seige battery operating in these areas in Feb 1918? My Grandmother says he was in Arras & Verdun aswell?? Is it possible to identify which battery or division he was attached to from his regimental number? Any help would be most appreciated Dawn
swizz Posted 9 November , 2009 Share Posted 9 November , 2009 Hello Dawn I can't help with the details about your Great Grandfather, but I thought you might be interested in this book. It is a memoir of life on the Italian Front with a British artillery battery, and explains some of the issues which faced artillerymen on that front, and what life was like for them there.
