Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help me with any details of an English soldier, E. J. Pallett.

The information I have is he served with the 17th British General Hospital in Alexandria Egypt in late 1915 to at least 1916. I believe Pallett may have been an orderly or similar at the hospital. From what I can see from Commonwealth War Graves Commission records, he survived the war.

It is possible that his pre-war home address was:

13 Milton Av

Highgate

London. N.

England

I should say that my wife and I have been luck enough to acquire a note book belonging to this soldier and are trying to track some of his details, though living in Turkey it is a bit harder.

Any information would be most gratefully received.

Cheers

No Medal Index Card could I find for E J Pallett. There are a few Palletts in the RAMC but none sem to have gone to a Mid East War Theatre in 1915 . There was a Captian RAMC who served in Mespot but not either initial. An Edgar R was RAMC into France Aug 1915 but killed in action 7.6.1917.

Hi Michael and Sotonmate,

thanks as ever for the most helpful replies, clarifying who E Pallett was and just as importantly was not.

Michael, you may not be overly high techi but how dumb am I, not thinking Pallett could have been a nurse. In all fairness, I only had the info I provided to go on, and only a few lines of written text to look at from Pallett, not really giving any impression of being a woman's hand. Pallett's writing was clear but a bit given to swirls, hence my mistake over the initial J rather than I (it is so apparent now).

This info makes this notebook, which has a number of autographs from soldiers recovering from wounds or illness gained during the Gallipoli Campaign even more exciting.

Michael, as to getting the PDF doc to me, errrr, ummmm your asking me, a complete Luddite? Maybe scanning it in if you could (if this sort of thing works)

Cheers
