AIF Posted 7 November , 2009 Posted 7 November , 2009 Does anyone have a wartime photograph showing the helmet cover with neck flap being worn? Exactly when did the neck flap first make it's appearance?
tocemma Posted 8 November , 2009 Posted 8 November , 2009 Hi Lone Pine, I believe these were amongst the kit designed for the Mesopotamia campaign, so mid 1917 I would guess. Joe Sweeney will, I'm sure, have all the relevant dates for this. They seem to have made a limited appearance on the Western Front too, but not before late 1917 early 1918 I would have thought. Regards Tocemma
Krithia Posted 9 November , 2009 Posted 9 November , 2009 I agree, I lent a 1917 dated example that was included in the Haselgrove/Radovic helmet book. I have also come across photos of then being worn in Mespot and also Salonika circa late 1917 - 1918. A nice helmet, they always look good with the flap!
