1st Battalion KOSB - 18th September 1915

Hello all,

My Great Uncle was killed on the first day of the Gully Ravine Battle with the 1st KOSB in Gallipoli.

I have just bought a plaque to a chap who served with my Great Uncle and was killed in action on the 15th Sept 1915.

I have several books covering Gully Ravine but none go as far as the date in question....

I would appreciate any info on the Battalions wherabouts/actions on this date.

Info from Ray Westlake's 'British Regiments at Gallipoli' (Leo Cooper, 1996, ISBN 0 85052 511 X)

August 1915: Relieved 3 am on 16th and to South Gully Beach. During evening to 'W' Beach and embarked for Suvla Bay. Landed 'A' Beach during morning 17th Aug and to bivouacs about 500 yards north of Kangaroo Pier. Moved forward to firing line between Chocolate and Scimitar Hills on 20th. Supported attack on Scimitar Hill with rifle and machine gun fire on 21st. Casualties – 1 officer and 25 other ranks. Relieved by 6th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 22nd and withdrew to reserve bivouacs. Began work on 2nd line defences. To firing line 29th Aug.

September 1915: Began work on advanced line. Began sending half companies for 24 hours rest at 'A' Beach on 5th. Band heard in enemy lines playing a British march on 9th. Relieved by 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 22nd and to reserve bivouacs. Casualties for month – 1 officer, 3 other ranks killed, 21 other ranks wounded. 101 to hospital sick. Embarked Prince Abbas for Imbros on 24th.
