Royal Artillery

Hello,

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out with the badges on the photo from one of my family.

I think I am right in saying that the cap badge is the Royal Artillery and the stripes on the arms indicate corporal but can anyone tell me what the follwing insignia are? :-

(1.) The collar badges. (Would these be the The Royal Artillery grenade?)

(2.) The patch on the shoulder.

(3.) The shoulder lanyard. (Would they be of the one colour or different colours?)

Thank You in advance.

Mark

I'm afraid to say he's off-topic for this forum, but to go systematically through the questions.

1. Yes, they are the grenade of the Royal Regiment of Artillery

2. The patch on the shoulder is, on a khaki rectangle (another pattern was light blue background), a stylized rear view of a cat sitting upright as seen from the rear, in black, Its tail, highlighted in red, curls around the outline of an aircraft in red, thus forming a number '9'. It is the 9th Anti Aircraft Division.

3. The lanyard is white. Royal Artillery ones usually are.

9 AA Division (by definition a Home Air Defence formation) was formed in October 1940 and disbanded in September 1942 when the regional AA Divisions were merged under AA Command.

So I'm afraid he's WW2 and off topic here.

Sincere apologies...if I knew the photo in question was WW2 I obviously wouldn't have posted it on this forum. Relitavely new on the forum and not as experienced as so many of you on here are. I was only looking for some snippets of information on the photo as I didn't know much about it at all.

So again apologies if I was yellow carded about being "off topic". I'll remember to double check next-time.

That said, sincere thanks for the information.

Don't worry Mark, you're not 'yellow carded' at all - it's just if one of the more zealous moderators alights, the thread will be locked.
