SteveMarsdin Posted 5 November , 2009 Posted 5 November , 2009 Good afternoon All. The recent thread on "Vandenberghe" has prompted to research my Anglo-Belgian in-laws a bit more. My wife's Belgian and her Great-Grandfather on her maternal side was wounded early in 1914 and evacuated to the south coast of Britain. He met his wife-to-be while convalescing in a hospital in or around Bournemouth, she was a nurse called Daisy Wilkins. (I am pursuing her story through a separate thread under "nurses" and have already received useful information). I am trying to find out more about my Great-Grandfather-in-law's Belgian war service and experience. He was born in or around 1892 and I have the UK marriage certificate from 1916. His name was Theophile Pierre Deval, although the marriage certificate has both Theophille Pierre Deval and Pierre Theophille Deval ! I know he was originally from the Liege area and was injured "early in the war" (family verbal history) but I don't know whether he was injured at Liege, on the Yser or elsewhere. Can anyone give me any guidance on the best place(s) to start my research on Theophile's war record ? Many thanks in anticipation.
