Majordecor Posted 5 November , 2009 Posted 5 November , 2009 Dear All, I would be very grateful for anyone's help in the following.... In 2005-07, I posted a number of queries relating to my late father in law, Lt. Col. Arthur William Channon MAJOR for a book of mine which has just been published. I returned to the site a couple of days ago to find a message that had been sent to me by ALASTAIR. He wrote as follows: I have just discovered your 2005 posting about your late father in law Lt. Col. Major which interested me. This is because I have just been transcribing some old letters written by my grandmother. Your father in law and his wife are mentioned in one letter dated 1946 when my grandmother and grandfather, Lt. Col. Gerard Peters were stationed in Detmold. They had dinners together and played bridge. My grandparents, like your father in law, spent a lot of time in India so that waass one good topic of conversation. In one of your postings you mentioned your mother in law - is she still around? All the best, Alistair Could anyone help in getting the following reply to Alistair please? Hello Alistair! I'm sorry to admit that I've only just seen your post. Wow! The reason I wanted to get in touch with the Great War Forum is to see whether anyone would like to buy my book, 'Lives in Colour'. A great deal of info was available through the Forum's members and I acknowledge this. There's a conunmdrum that I never did resolve....Lt. Col. Major wass stationed in India between 1920 and 1922 after leaving the International Force in Archangel, Russia. He wrote a weekly article for what his surviving widow, my Mum in law, remembers as 'The Allahabad Gazette', a light-hearted mickey-take of the type of soldier in the Indian Service. Any info through the Forum, or direct to me on mgeomaj@aol.com would be much appreciated. George
