Guest Seawolf Posted 2 November , 2009 Share Posted 2 November , 2009 I am trying to get information on L E Amsdon who won the MC during WW1. Can anyone give information as to how this was won?
sotonmate Posted 2 November , 2009 Share Posted 2 November , 2009 seawolf You can search the London Gazette,and/or get a read of the Battalion War Diaries which are at Kew Archives. Click on LLT at top left of this page and then on LINKS at the bottom of the left side column. You will find a direct search link to the Gazette. There are two War Diaries for 1/6 Essex R,so once you find from the Gazette the period in which he won the MC,bearing in mind that they publish sometimes a few months behind the event, you can zero in on whichever Diary is appropriate: WO95/4325 Jul to Dec 1915 Gallipoli. WO95/4630 Jan 1916 to May 1919.Egypt/Palestine. Sotonmate

I have found out he was wounded at the 1st Battle of Gaza, that might be the start.
IPT Posted 2 November , 2009 Share Posted 2 November , 2009 Not what you're looking for, I know; SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 13 JUNE, 1947 ROYAL PIONEER CORPS. Capt. L. E. AMSDON, M.C., T.D. (45736) having exceeded the age limit, relinquishes his commn., 14th June 1947, and is granted the hon. rank of Maj. Also, I think his wife Victoria may have been known as Queenie.
