War Diary of the 5th Seaforth Highlanders

by Capt D Sutherland MC* 5th Seaforths and RE John Lane, London 1920

A narrative history rather than a 'war diary' in the WO95 sense

My own database

Work in progress - c 300 officers and 4300 men who served in the 5th Seaforths

The Sword of the North: Highland Memories of the Great War

by Rev D M'Echern 5th Seaforths and RDC Carruthers, Inverness 1923

At heart a simple parish memorial/roll of service but contains bits of information on all Highland regiments, yeomanry, TF units, etc, interspersed with the minister's poetry - he was Bard to the Gaelic Society of Inverness.

James,

The only published work I have on the 2nd that isn't widely available is the section dealing with them in Sword of the North. This includes a group photograph (with names) of the officers and WOs in Aug 17 and a list of officers died with 2 individual photographs.

When Sword of the North deals with anything outside the Rev M'Echern's own experience - his parish, his time in the RDC and his family - it becomes more of a scrapbook than an original record (and there is far too much of his poetry!).

If you're looking for an individual from the 2nd let me know - if they passed through the 5th at any point I may have something about them.
