These numbers have no sequential numerical index at the National Archives. They seem to have been issued in blocks as required,to whoever needed them next. "Higgledy-Piggledy" springs to mind as a description.Yours could have been in a block for, say, the Royal Scots, and the next block to the Devonshires. Looking in a Regimental, nay,an Army Centre Roll and you will see every few pages the series changes.

There are people working on an index,so you might get one of them here to help !

I have the same problem . I have inherited a Silver War Badge - with a horizontal pin and number 29007, but not sure where it came from.

I suspect it is from one of the following relatives, some of whom I have other medals for, but not sure!

Reg Minter - RFA

George Barlex - 13th Essex

Rupert Barlex - 13th Essex

Harry Franklin - 1/4 Berks

Percy Franklin - RMA

Possibly someone else. Could anyone assist with identifying the owner?

Thanks

If you have a potential "owner" it is much simpler to confirm /deny his entitlement, from the MiC & SWB Roll reference to work from just the number is unless you posses the "key" {which a handful of researchers do} is difficult, that said some forum pals have lists covering many numbers & may be able to assist!

It's always handy to post the service numbers too, they will be on the rim of medals.

Reg Minter L/22444 RFA had a Silver War Badge in List RA/3593.

George Barlex didn't.

Rupert Barlex didn't.

Harry John Franklin 200726 Berkshire Regt did. List L/A/1009.2 other Harry didn't.

I don't do RMA.

There are only two Percy Franklins listed for RMA and RMLI:

Percy George Franklin RMA/12660, who was killed when HMS VANGUARD blew up and would not have received a SWB.

Percy Franklin PLY/14611, who was discharged FREE and would not have qualified for a SWB either.

Thanks very much - I have only dipped into this every now and again , and still somewhat baffled by it all ! I suspect it is Reg Minters.
